1.  Kaposi Sarcoma

Kaposi Sarcoma (KS) is a type of cancer that is caused by Kaposi Sarcoma Herpes Virus (KSHV) because of a weakened immune system. This disease is most common among the gay population because of the fact that this community is known to use recreational drugs such as Nitrite which is known to be associated with Kaposi Sarcoma. Nitrite is used to relax the anal sphincter and so this acts as a gateway for the KSHV to enter into the body.

KS is a strong indicator of AIDS but an HIV negative man with a history of using nitrite can also suffer from this disease. Gay people infected with KSHV are known to have shorter lifespans than anyone else who uses the IV drugs. Use of such drugs should be stopped.

2.  HIV/AIDS

Unsafe sex practices are one of the major causes of HIV infections for anyone, irrespective of gender. However, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the World Health Organization, in their respective reports, have stated that Gay community accounts for the majority of AIDS cases.

Although an HIV infected gay man can still continue to live a sexually healthy life, it is very important to be under the supervision of a good sexologist who can counsel and guide about safe sex practices. One can even find sexologist online and get an online doctor consultation.

3.  Syphilis

Yet another sexually transmitted disease, known to be majorly affecting the men who are in a sexual relationship with men, as per the report of U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC). The sadder part is that the strategies and treatments that were known to be effective in heterosexuals did not give desired results among the gay people and so new approaches have to be used to bring the number down.

Syphilis is treatable and so immediate medical help must be taken if there are any sign and symptom. Some common symptoms are a sore throat, swollen glands, muscle aches, sore in mouth & anus, weight loss, and hair loss.

4.  Anal Papilloma

Anal Papilloma, caused by the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV), is one of the major causes of anal cancers in gay men. The symptoms include genital and anal warts which are treatable but recurrences of warts are often seen as an inconvenience. The spread rate among the partners is very high and so doctors recommend regular screening tests like AnalPap Smears.

5.  Impairment of Immune Response

The direct entry of the semen into the stream of the blood during anal intercourse is known to cause immune dysfunction. Repetitive exposures to semen along with the STD (Sexually Transmitted Disease) causing pathogens can hurt the immune response making the body extremely vulnerable to a plethora of diseases.

Gay men have full rights to enjoy their intimate relationships but should also take necessary precautions to steer clear of any infectious disease and enjoy a healthy life.
